Pontiac Cadillac Buick has been building its reputation as one of New
Jersey's Best Automobile Dealerships since it opened for business
in 1941. The dealership has changed since the early days, but our
dedication to customer satisfaction has remained steadfast for
over 60 years.
The Spring of 1941 was to be a time of unexpected
opportunity for two young men from New Brunswick, N.J. Ben
Kemper a salesman for Dietz motors in New Brunswick, was offered
the opportunity to purchase a Pontiac and Cadillac dealership,
Security Motors, in Bound Brook, N.J. Ben immediately contacted
his good friend and brother- in- law, the late Nick Krauszer, and
presented the potential business venture to his future partner.
The two young entrepreneurs were anxious to become automobile
dealers, and only one obstacle prevented Nick and Ben from signing
the purchase contract. The purchase price was $10,000.00 and they
each had only $3,000.00. Being resourceful and determined, they
convinced the Pontiac regional manager to advance the additional
money needed to purchase the dealership.
Nick and Ben's first challenge
to succeed arrived late in 1941 when the two partners discovered
the true reason the previous owner sold out was because of the
upcoming war. Early in 1942, Ben was drafted into the Army and
Nick went to work for the War effort at Mack Motors. With the
two partners absent from the dealership, the business quickly deteriorated.
Nick and Ben's anxious aspirations quickly turned to doomed desperation,
as they had no choice but to close the dealership. They received
a letter from General Motors that informed them to re-open
the dealership or surrender the franchise. The two partners were
desperate not to lose their franchise.
In Nick and Ben's absence,
Ben's wife, Genevieve, reopened the dealership and managed the
business with two body repairmen. At night after a full day of
work at the Mack Motors War effort, Nick would arrive at the
dealership to repair autos. In spite of a seemingly hopeless situation,
Genevieve was able to construct a new showroom and repair facility
without any cash because of the government priorities they had
obtained to do their part to keep automobiles on the road. The struggle
continued until the spring of 1945 when the war ended and the two
partners were reunited and able to pursue their dream. Their initial
post war enthusiasm was stifled because of the limited availability
of new cars immediately following the war. But the two men persevered
and soon the economy and their business gradually improved.
Nick
and Ben worked long, hard hours expanding their business, and
with their emphasis on customer satisfaction their business flourished.
The two partners believed "a satisfied customer
always returns." By the early 1960's they had outgrown their
Bound Brook location and decided to relocate to a larger facility.
In 1965, Nick and Ben opened for business at the present Highway
# 22 location. In 1970 Nick retired and Ben's sons, John and
Greg, joined the business. Several years later Tom and Paul also
joined the business. The business continues to grow. For example,
in 1965 they had 15 employees, and today Kemper has 48 employees.
The Dealership has won the coveted Pontiac Master Dealer Award
13 times and is currently ranked in the top ten nationally for
total customer satisfaction.
